you have a thing for the 80s. i like it.

Melody: 1/2- Even though its a remix, this could be a bit louder.

Drums: 2/2- Not as tough as Galactic Race but still nice.

Bass: 1/2- Weak.

Instruments: 2/2- Pretty '87

Mood: 1/2- Not enough energy

OVERALL: 7/10

Sorry I didnt make an in depth review. Are you even reading this?

benanderson responds:

Cover, not a remix.

Its ironic how you say the bass is weak and the drums are not tough, the drums are very punchy (especially the kick, the Linn LM1's crowning jewel) and the bass line from the Juno106 sends the spectrum analyser (and my subwoofer) mad, same with the main synthesizer lead.

Can I ask what kind of speakers you are using to listen to this music? I am using a £400 set-up with a logitech subwoofer and two Tannoy floor standing speakers.

The instruments are genuine 80s synthesizers. The Juno106 is from 1984, the CZ3000 is from 1986, the DX9 is from 1983, and the two drum machines from 1979.

Nice
I also break down songs to review, so you're in luck.

Melody: 1/2- It's not bad. I think that you did well making a mesmerizing lead here. I felt myself drifting off into thought and dazing out a couple times.

Drums: 2/2- I really liked it at the beginning, it got a little repetitive at times though. However, I liked the beat that was being repeated, so it's alright with me.

Bass: 1/2- Techno requires bass, and while you have it, I dont think you used it properly. I think you could have even used a synth pad and made it low octave to use on this song. It has such a mystic quality to it.

Instruments: 2/2- Cant beat what instruments you have here in this song. Everything is mixed right, gives it that mystical quality. The bass instrument should have been changed.

Mood: 2/2- As I said multiple times, it really has a deep and mystical quality to it, its incredibly easy to listen to and doze off to.

OVERALL 8/10- I really like this- good work!

Yodamanjaro responds:

This is trance, not techno. lol but thanks for the review anyways!

WOWZORZ

Melody: 1/2- It wasn't bad. It didn't seem much more than a scale though, I think there should be a main melody with this as the backup and filler. I liked how its catchy, but I really think it gets repetitive and sometimes annoying, especially because its fighting a hard trance bass.
Bass: 2/2- Nice work on it. Now, this is one of the few songs where the bass should be turned down like a half decibel. It would be good without all of the melody synths and their volume, but it makes the song sound messy and clashing at times.
Drums: 1/2- There needs to be volume control throughout. The synths are way too loud, and the drums are low. The drums themselves are very uninspired, and do not add any energy to the song at all. I do like them at the beginning of the song, makes me wanna dance until i cant hear them.
Instruments: 1/2- I didnt like some of the synths you have here. They are too low, and kill the rest of the instruments off. There needs to be volume control here. The bass can be way too loud at times, and the solution to this is NOT to turn the main synths up. I know the sound screws up when imported, but it rarely ever makes the bass louder.
Mood: 2/2- I think it really catches the rave mood. However, about 60% of the rave mood flows from the drum beats, and I dont think you completely captured that in the heavier parts of the song.

OVERALL: 7/10
Catchiness Bonus: +1
FINAL SCORE: 8/10- You pulled it off well, it got sloppy at times.

Adachiskindagod responds:

thanks for the in depth review :)

cool

I'm tired, gonna make this quick.

Melody: 2/2- Catchy, simple, nice.

Bass: 2/2- I think its just fine. Maybe its my bass booster headphones though... make sure you master your song with and without headphones.

Drums: 1/2- Kinda simplistic. Its not bad, but it would really help if it was a bit more advanced.

Instruments: 2/2- No complaints

Mood: 2/2- Makes me want to dance

OVERALL: 9/10- Awesome work

St0rmChaser responds:

thanks for your good constructive review =D.

HOLY CRAP

Melody: 4/2- Guitars are perfect. So perfect, you got max points. It really captured the fury of the final battle and the anger I felt after getting PWNED by Lance's Dragonite.

Drums: 2/2- Really defines the mood of the song right off of the bat.

Bass: 2/2- No comment

Instruments Used: 3/2- You really redefined the use of guitars in video game remixes, as a sort of bridge between the virtual and biological world. Until now, guitars being used in common video game remixes sucked. This really takes the cake for one of the best remixes I have ever heard. The drums really brings those 8-bit pixels creations to life, and to our ears. But what I really liked is that you stuck to the roots and used those synths. That of course added a lot of class to it.

Mood: 3/2- This is an epic battle. All of your hard work paid off in making this- it really worked out.

OVERALL: 14/10
I am completely serious. Technically, you scored higher than what is possible. Your score is an improper fraction, and the highest score I have ever given.

Burn7 responds:

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. It's awesome reviews like this that keep me writing and recording.

I would have done more with the bass, maybe some solos or something in there, more variation in the recordings but I only have my bass player come and record once before the final render. I'm also limited by his playing ability. He's not bad by and means, but he is pretty rusty because he doesn't really play regularly. He is starting to again because he's in my band now, which is cool because it will improve the quality of the recordings as well.

I listened to your stuff and it's pretty good too, especially since you're so young it means you have plenty of room to grow. The songs I made when I was your age really sounded like a moron just pounding the shit out of a piano with a club-foot. But... thanks again!

<:'(

I'm disappointed that I cant get my remixes to sound this awesome.
Oh well... lets get on with this quickly so I can go to bed.

Melody: 2/2- Needed to be a bit louder
Drums: 2/2- Catchy and simple.
Bass: 3/2- The bass by itself is what makes this song so great.
Instruments: 2/2- No complaints here.
Mood: 3/2- One of the few songs I've seen that can portray a battle, loop, and make you want to dance at the same time. You should have put it as a loop, because when I listen to it on my iphone on loop it works perfectly.

Good work

Melody: 1/2- You did well with this tricky song. I liked the guitars, but they only sounded right in some parts. Perhaps you could have another lead instrument that plays in some of the tougher guitar parts- I think that would help.
Drums: 1/2- Kind of lackluster in some parts of the songs. I think it would really compliment the guitars(which really need some help in parts of the song) if you made the drums more opaque. You had some really good drums to work with here, and you barely touched them, it seems.
Bass: 0/2- D/P/Pt has most likely the most bass out of all of the games. But here, there isnt enough at all. Especially at 2:04, where the bass is supposed to have a bit of a solo, you have the piano. I really dont think, unless louder, a piano can suffice as a bass. I have tried using a piano for a bass and it was successful, so I dont think you're too far off.
Mood: 2/2- No comment. Its good for the gym battle.
Instruments: 1/2- Did not like the piano bass and I did not like the guitar at some times.
OVERALL: 5/10
As a rivaling MIDI artist, I look to your songs to see what you are doing right, and what you are doing wrong. This song wasnt the best thing from you I have listened to, to but it truthfully. Its not bad though. Having attempted this song multiple times, I know how difficult it is to get it right. I mean with all of the instruments that the MIDI provides, its near impossible to single out all of the different sections to work on. I really like your music and hope we can collaborate on something in the future.

Cat333Pokemon responds:

Thanks for the elaborate review. This song was a little sloppy, as it wasn't my computer and I had no idea how to use Virtual Guitarist. What would you like to collaborate on?

Its OK

Melody: 2/2- nailed it, but not much energy to it at all. But its not bad
Drums: 1/2- they could have been a little more opaque
Bass: 1/2- nothing special. Could have used bass strings or trombone
Mood: 1/2- the theme is right before Victory Road and the Elite Four. It feels way too somber. The theme in my opinion should be a little more energetic, like a finale to a long journey.
Instruments: 2/2- You could change them to better suit the mood.

OVERALL: 7/10
I know my remixes aren't a huge hit, but I just did this song a while back and I can really offer a lot of advice having worked with this song a lot. I know I dont have much room to talk, but my job as an artist is to critique others and offer whatever advice i have to offer. So I hope this helps...

Sephirot24 responds:

>Drums: I wanted to give strong "marching" feel, that's why they're more noticeable.
>Bass: yep, just a a regular bass. I wanted to keep ye' olde' 8-bit feel where the bass is really simple.
>Mood: well, you nailed it. My music often comes out dark / somber... IDK why =/

Well, thx for taking your time to review! =)
And sorry for the LATE response.

AMAZING but messy

Too much volume, turn the guitars down a tad. I cant listen to this on my ipod because of the static.

Melody: 3/2- really catchy and nice structure
Bass: 2/2- Just enough in the guitars
Drums: 1/2- not a problem could be a little more concrete
Mood: 3/2- CYBAFIYAH
Instruments: 2/2 Guitars are perfect, deserve less Flanger effect. There were enough synths, the guitar could sound more realistic. But that's really your call. The synths were amazing.

Overall: 11/10 Holy crap I love this

MashedByMachines responds:

yaay thanks! Yeah some parts sounds a bit messy on small speakers, i dont know how to fix that :(
