its not bad

Melody: 1/2- the warping sounds are great for some notes, but it was too heavily used. I think you should use a gameboy synth for the lead and go nuts on the rest, for the sake of nostalgia.
Bass: 0/2- a louder/deeper bass would do wonders for this song. here, the bass is nearly playing on the same octave as the main in some parts. That is a big problem
Drums: 1/2- nothing special. if you have preset drum loops, use them like mad, it does wonders. it would really bring more energy into this song. i think with most programs you can add the bitcrusher effect onto presets too
Listenability: 2/2- its actually nice to listen to, the melody needed a little bit more reverb i think
Instruments: 1/2- its a remix, you dont have to copy the original. the instruments could be completely different if you wanted it to be.

OVERALL: Its half n half.

The point of my Pokémon projects were to get them as close to the originals as possible, preserving the nostalgia, but also to try show how deeply I enjoy listening to the deep and minor details which make a song what it is, something I feel is lost in many remix projects. I used to dislike it if one bit was changed in ie. a karaoke/instrumental version of a song, it felt as if it would ruin everything about the song. Now however, I am considering perhaps making future renewing projects to be slightly different and not near 100 % pinpointed regarding notes.

Ah cool, an analyzis. Yeah, I had feedback recently that the bass was a little low in my projects. However, a lot of words belonging in music composing and so, I have much trouble understanding. I know absolutely nothing so far regarding effects and words related to music (for instance, octaves, bitcrusher and presets). I am having a hard time understanding the English language itself at the moment.

I am really untalented regarding anything that is not applying notes, but I hope to learn more of that and learn more how to use music programs correctly, professionally and all that (I am currently using Fruity Loops and Modplug Tracker). One of my biggest problems, I think and feel, is the fact that I have no instruments other than the few basic ones that came with the program.

Thank you very much for the professional and honest review, it is appreciated. I hope I soon will be able to learn to fix these mistakes and how to add effects more and tweak instruments, how to adjust volumes more appropriately and so. If I do, I hope to come back to this project and perhaps tweak it a little to sound a little better. =)

Thanks for your time!

If I heard X-mass one more time....

its christmas...

Nice song

sorohanro responds:

Happy Holidays !

Nice

It would be nicer if you added a christmas song melody in here somewhere.

Also, you might want to add a stronger bass and different drums.

Im doing Christmas songs as well, please check them out!

MattAtTheSeams responds:

Yeah, I get what you're talking about. =] It's not really supposed to be Christmas-y at all, I just listened to it when I was done and was like, "Hmmmm...." Haha, but I'll definitely work on the bass and drums. Thanks!

SUGGESTION SECTOR:
There is a ton of stuff to put in here, but the thing is this is a laugh song. I could go on and on about the things that need improvement. If you want me to seriously review something, ask. My reviews are extremely helpful.

FINAL WORD:
Cheeseburgers.

zcool888 responds:

oh, well like you said, this IS a joke.

on the other hand I would like to make a good song, so your tips would be grandly appreciated. Although, instead of giving me tips on building up on this song, maybe give me pointers to a good song in general (if thats not asking too much :P).

thanks in advance.

ps. cheezburgers R gud :D

Okay

"...ummm... how did this get on the best tracks ever list?... how did this get NUMBER 1 on best tracks ever... >.<"

Honestly, I have no idea.

Melody: 1/2- Not very inspiring...
Bass: 1/2 - notes were too high here
Drum: 1/2- try harder next time
Effort: 2/2- sounds like you put some work into it
Listen ability: 2/2- easy listening track
Catchiness: 2/2- catchy. In a hypnotizing kind of way
Smoothness: 2/2- very smooth
Structure: 2/2- good
Instrument use: 1/2 didnt like these
Mood: 0/2- this doesnt really sound like DnB because it doesnt have any DnB in it.

OVERALL: 14/20 7/10 3/5

SUGGESTION SECTOR:

I think you shouldnt do DnB. Your style is obviously smooth listening techno tracks by the way this song came out. This didnt have a pumping bass and drum beats like DnB should. Drum and Bass is not about the synths as much as it is about the Drum and Bass (why its called so). The idea was all wrong, but had this just been a regular techno track it would have better.

FINAL WORD:

I have to go, sorry I couldnt put in a more in depth review

DJPureSuffer responds:

yeah, I dont see how this could get this spot. no complaints tho, lol XD There was no real melody that stands out in this song in my eyes. yeah, i never really did any d'n'b projects after this. I realized that I diddnt really know how to do it. lol. so I stick to my trance and techno for now. Thanks for the nice long review.

Okay. I have a brief few suggestions, and when I say brief, I really do mean brief.

- I do think that the vocals could have been put on a leash. You shouldn't have used it this much. Maybe after the song fully builds.

- The bass could have been a little bit louder, and you could have used a different sample for it. But its not an entire loss.

- The drums felt more like a rock kit than a techno kit, you could have used something a little more synthetic.

- The song built a little too quickly. I think that you might want to give the song some time to build.

PRAISE STATION:

-I really liked the rave feel you gave to this song.

- The beat was extremely catchy, making for a 3/2 on that review.

- The chanting was extremely catchy as well, addictive.

- I really liked the synth backgrounds here. They really added that punch you needed for this song to come off right.

FINAL WORD:

Amazing job man, I cant wait until you come back in the fall.

Good: Nice smoothness and mood, and its a good catchy tune. I really liked the trumpet here. I also play the trumpet in my band.

Bad: It seemed at times the instruments didnt really match. Did you record most things using a metronome at the same time? Because that would help. The bass was okay, not exceptional. The drum sounded messy at times. The trumpet sometimes went off a bit, but thats what happens with live recording. It was a little too subtle, like the intensity of the last few notes was perfect. You should have used that bit of intensity throughout the entire song, to give it a bit more of a upbeat feel. Because in order for the song to be lazy and slow, you need more instruments than you did. I understand that this is for a 3 instrument challenge, but you can do more than that with 3 instruments and a drum.

Not bad though.

sorohanro responds:

Thank you for review.
About rhythm... well, what you might call messy is in fact the Latin way of arranging rhythm, accents don't fall on he first beat but on the last half of the 4-th beat, so the drums seem to go ahead the melody. That is what make people dance (I mean Salsa).

The recording is not made only using a metronome, in fact most of the track is sequenced.
Well, I suggest the you listen to some more Latin music (I recommend Michel Camilo, Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D'Rivera).
Hope you'll like more some of my other tracks ;)

Ok job, needs improvement.

Melody: 1/2-for a legendary song, you messed up the main riff pretty bad. I automatically have to dock points off.
Beat: 2/2 - catchy and jamming'. Simple, but effective.
Base: 2/2-Big sound, like a club.
Effort: 1/2 - could have done a little more. It is way too skeletal here.
Drum: 0/2-was lacking to help the bass.
Listenability: 0/2-This song was overall hard to listen to.
Catchiness: 2/2-automatically Zelda is catchy. You didn't take away from that.
Mood: 2/2 - no comment
Instrument use: 0/2 - I didn't like the samples you used here at all.
Structure: 1/2-This song seems sloppily done. The intro could have just been one bar, and you could have raved the end part or a few more bars.
Smoothness: 1/2-It didn't flow as I thought it would.

OVERALL: I am very disappointed with this piece. This was definitely not your best work. I know you can do better. Work harder next time! 12/20

JohnnyFrizz responds:

Hahaha I bet you could have done it a lot better 3 years ago, right?
